What's usually wrong.
Tell us the symptom — we'll narrow it down in chat and send a tech with the right parts.
Fridge isn't cold but the freezer is
Usually the defrost system, the damper, or the evaporator fan that pushes cold air into the fridge compartment.
Whole unit is warm
Compressor, start relay, or dirty condenser coils — the parts that move heat out of the cabinet.
Water leaking onto the floor
Clogged defrost drain, frozen water line, or a failed inlet valve — common on door-dispenser fridges.
Loud humming or buzzing
Compressor under load, condenser fan, or evaporator fan bearing — the noise points to which one.
Ice maker isn't making ice
Water inlet valve, frozen fill tube, or a dead ice maker module — fixable in a single visit on most brands.
Frost building up in the freezer
Worn door seal, defrost heater, or a stuck thermostat letting humid air in and freezing the coils.

Frequently asked questions
If yours isn't here, call 416-436-3182 or start a chat.
How fast can a technician arrive for a broken fridge?
Across our 22 GTA cities, same day or next day. Emergencies (no cooling, flooding, smoke or sparks) get priority — in the Toronto core and inner suburbs we usually have a tech at your door in 2–4 hours. Call 416-436-3182 or email info@appliancescitywide.com and we'll tell you a real arrival window before you commit.
Why is my fridge not cooling but the freezer still works?
Almost always the defrost system, the damper, or the evaporator fan that pushes cold air from the freezer into the fridge compartment. We see this on every brand. The fix is usually a 1–2 hour visit — start a chat with the symptom and we'll confirm before sending a tech.
Is it worth repairing a 10-year-old refrigerator?
Sometimes. We use the 50% rule — if the repair is more than half the cost of a comparable new fridge (and the unit is past its 13-year average useful life), replacing is usually the smarter call. ACW Rob will walk you through the numbers honestly before you book; if replacing makes more sense we'll say so.
How much does refrigerator repair typically cost?
Most common faults — door seal, fan motor, defrost system, ice maker — fall in a modest range including parts, and we'll quote the exact number before starting work. Sealed-system or compressor work runs higher and we'll quote it up front too. No call-out fee on booked repairs — you approve the price before any work starts.
Can my food stay cold while I wait for the technician?
If the unit is fully off, transfer perishables to a cooler with ice and keep the freezer door shut — frozen food usually stays safe for ~48 hours in a closed freezer. If it's only the fridge compartment that's warm, the freezer side is still safe. Tell us when you call and we'll triage your visit accordingly.
