Common issues

What's usually wrong.

Tell us the symptom — we'll narrow it down in chat and send a tech with the right parts.

  • Not heating at all

Failed bake or broil element, tripped thermal fuse, open wire in the element circuit, or a control-board fault.

  • Bakes unevenly

Worn door seal letting heat escape, drifting temperature sensor, partially failed element, or a misaligned convection fan.

  • Doesn't reach set temperature

Drifting temperature sensor, calibration drift in the control board, or an aging element putting out less heat than rated.

  • Door won't close properly

Worn or torn door seal, broken hinge spring, or a misaligned door from improper opening.

  • Self-clean cycle won't run

Failed door-lock motor, control-board fault, or a thermal fuse blown by the previous self-clean run.

  • Error code on display

Brand-specific fault — temperature, heating, sensor, or door-lock faults are the most common groups. Tell us the code when you call.

How we fix it

From your call to your warranty.

Same flow on every visit — no surprises.

  1. Diagnose

Tech tests bake and broil elements with a multimeter, validates temperature sensor accuracy, inspects the door seal, and identifies the failed part.

  2. Quote

You get a firm price for parts plus labour before any work starts. You approve or decline.

  3. Repair

Most electric oven repairs complete on the first visit — bake elements, broil elements, sensors, and door seals are stocked on the truck.

  4. Test

Tech runs a calibration bake at 350°F and confirms the oven holds temperature within ±15°F before leaving.

  5. Warranty

1 year on parts and labour. If the same issue comes back, we come back at no cost.

Frequently asked questions

If yours isn't here, call 416-436-3182 or start a chat.

Do you repair gas ovens?

No — we service electric ovens only. If you have a gas oven or gas range, call a licensed gas technician. We're happy to recommend one when you call 416-436-3182.

How fast can a technician arrive for a broken oven?

Most of the 22 GTA cities we cover, same day or next day. Oven failures aren't usually emergencies (use a counter-top appliance in the meantime), but holiday-season calls (mid-November through New Year's) get triaged toward priority. Call 416-436-3182 or email info@appliancescitywide.com and we'll quote a real arrival window before you book.

Why does my oven say it's at temperature but my food cooks slowly?

Usually a drifting temperature sensor or a failing element putting out less heat than rated. Many ovens drift 25-50°F low after 7-10 years; a tech can confirm with a calibrated thermometer and recalibrate the control or replace the sensor. The fix is typically a 30-45 minute job.

Do you repair wall ovens and double ovens?

Yes — built-in electric wall ovens (single and double), the oven compartment of an electric range, and warming-drawer ovens. Tell us the configuration and approximate age when you call.

Is it worth repairing a 13-year-old oven?

Borderline. Ovens have a 15-year average useful life, so by year 13 the math depends on the failure. Element or sensor replacement is an affordable parts-only job that usually still pencils out; control board failure on a high-end model often pushes past the 50% rule. ACW Rob will walk you through the math when you call.

What if my oven is still under manufacturer warranty?

Tell us the brand and the serial number when you call — we'll check whether the manufacturer covers in-warranty repair through their authorized network or through us. If they don't cover it, we'll quote our own repair so you can compare.
