What's usually wrong.
Tell us the symptom — we'll narrow it down in chat and send a tech with the right parts.
Induction zone won't detect pan
Failed induction coil, faulty pan-detection sensor, or non-ferrous cookware (induction needs magnetic-bottom cookware).
Ceramic cooktop surface cracked
Heavy impact, thermal stress, or a heavy lid drop. Cracked surfaces are a safety risk and require full glass replacement.
Radiant element won't heat
Failed radiant element, failed infinite switch, or a broken control-board zone driver.
Touch controls unresponsive
Spilled liquid on the control panel, failed touch-sense overlay, or a cracked sensor under the glass.
Cooktop trips the breaker
Failed element shorting to ground, failed control board, or undersized breaker for a high-amp induction unit.
Zone stays on after turning off
Failed infinite switch — contacts welded closed. Unsafe: stop using the zone and pull the cooktop breaker until repaired.
From your call to your warranty.
Same flow on every visit — no surprises.
Diagnose
Tech tests each zone, validates control inputs, inspects the surface and underside, and identifies the failed component.

Repair
Most cooktop repairs complete on the first visit — radiant elements, induction coils, and infinite switches are stocked on the truck. Cracked-glass replacements are special-order and may require a second visit.

Frequently asked questions
If yours isn't here, call 416-436-3182 or start a chat.
Do you repair gas cooktops?
No — we service induction and ceramic electric cooktops only. If you have a gas cooktop, call a licensed gas technician. We're happy to recommend one when you call 416-436-3182.
How fast can a technician arrive for a broken cooktop?
Most of the 22 GTA cities we cover, same day or next day. Cracked-ceramic-surface and breaker-tripping calls get priority because of safety risk. Call 416-436-3182 or email info@appliancescitywide.com and we'll quote a real arrival window before you book.
Why won't my induction cooktop detect my old pans?
Induction needs cookware with a ferrous (magnetic) base. Test with a fridge magnet — if it doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan, the cooktop can't detect it. This isn't a fault; you'll need induction-compatible cookware. If your magnetic pans don't work either, the induction coil or sensor has failed and we'll quote the repair.
Is a cracked ceramic cooktop a safety risk?
Yes — a cracked ceramic surface can let liquids reach the live electrical components underneath, and the heated zone can stress the crack into a full break. Stop using the affected zone and call us. Replacement glass is special-order on most brands; we typically need a second visit after the part arrives.
Is it worth repairing a 10-year-old induction cooktop?
Borderline. Induction cooktops have a 13-15 year average useful life but the most expensive repair (full coil and control-board replacement) often runs 50-60% of replacement cost. Single-zone failures usually pencil out. ACW Rob will walk you through the math when you call.
What if my cooktop is still under manufacturer warranty?
Tell us the brand and the serial number when you call — we'll check whether the manufacturer covers in-warranty repair through their authorized network or through us. If they don't cover it, we'll quote our own repair so you can compare.
